Meth Kingpin Gets 10 Years
A Las Cruces man has been sentenced to 120 months in prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine trafficking ring. Jose Angel Sanchez, 35, was found guilty of possessing approximately 229.5 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute in Dona Ana County, N.M.
The case against Sanchez began on December 2, 2016, when he was arrested on a criminal complaint charging him with possessing the illicit substance. According to the complaint, Sanchez committed the crime while on supervised release from a prior federal drug trafficking conviction.
Sanchez’s troubles with the law began on March 30, 2017, when he pleaded guilty to a felony information charging him with possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute. In entering the guilty plea, Sanchez admitted that on December 2, 2016, he possessed more than 50 grams of methamphetamine, which he intended to sell to others.
In addition to the prison sentence, Sanchez will also be required to serve six years of supervised release after his release from prison. The case was investigated by the Las Cruces office of the FBI and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah M. Davenport of the U.S. Attorney’s Las Cruces Branch Office.
