CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – Terrell McBride, 34, is headed to federal prison for three decades after a massive methamphetamine bust and the discovery of a substantial drug fortune. McBride was sentenced on February 6, 2023, to 30 years for possessing over 6,900 grams of methamphetamine and distributing over 2,000 grams of the deadly drug throughout the Cedar Rapids area.
The case, built by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), revealed a significant operation. A search of McBride’s Cedar Rapids residence didn’t just turn up a mountain of meth; it also unearthed $460,726 in U.S. currency – cash McBride admitted was directly tied to his illegal drug trade. This wasn’t a small-time operation; it was a full-blown trafficking scheme.
Federal prosecutors, led by Assistant United States Attorney Jason Dorval Norwood, secured the conviction through a plea agreement. McBride confessed to distributing the substantial quantity of methamphetamine, acknowledging his role as a key player in the local drug pipeline. The sheer volume of drugs and money seized points to a sophisticated operation that poisoned the streets of Cedar Rapids.
But this wasn’t McBride’s first brush with the law. Court records show a lengthy and disturbing criminal history, boasting over ten prior adult convictions. These weren’t minor offenses either; McBride’s past includes both violent crimes and previous drug-related convictions, painting a picture of a repeat offender with a blatant disregard for the law.
The 30-year sentence sends a clear message: large-scale drug trafficking will not be tolerated. The bust and subsequent conviction represent a significant blow to the methamphetamine supply in the Cedar Rapids area, and law enforcement officials hope it will disrupt further criminal activity.
