Billings, MT – A grim day in court as Ronald Orrin Schultz Jr., a 45-year-old Terry man, was handed a 10-year prison sentence for harboring child sex abuse material. The sentence also includes 30 years of supervised release and a $100 fine, with an additional special assessment of $5,000. U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme announced the verdict.
Schultz, who previously pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography in April 2025, had no qualms about his electronic media during a March 14, 2024, search warrant execution. His cellphone linked him to a KIK account where he shared and accessed explicit content involving minors, further cementing his predatory intentions.
According to court documents, the investigation began when a file of Child Sex Abuse Material (CSAM) was uploaded to KIK on June 18, 2023. The Cybertip led to Schultz’s IP address, screen name, and email address being identified. It was later discovered that the upload originated from his residence in Terry, Montana.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Zeno Baucus prosecuted the case, with the Prairie County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation leading the investigation. This crackdown is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department initiative combating child sexual exploitation since 2006.
The initiative’s mission is clear: to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children online, while also identifying and rescuing victims. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at Justice.gov/PSC.
