Meth Kingpin McIntosh Locked Up 20 Years
A Council Bluffs man has been sent to prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine conspiracy that brought over 30 kilograms of the deadly drug to the metro area.
240 Months for Meth and Gun Charges
Virgil Rude McIntosh, III, 47, was sentenced to 240 months in prison for Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance, and 180 months for Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, to be served concurrently. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentence.
According to public court documents, McIntosh pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Between December and July 2023, McIntosh was involved in a drug conspiracy credited for the distribution of over 30 kilograms of methamphetamine in the Council Bluffs metro area. Officers conducted a search warrant of McIntosh’s residence and seized methamphetamine and a loaded Sig Saur 9 mm handgun.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country. The program brings together law enforcement agencies and community organizations to foster trust and legitimacy, support community-based initiatives, and set strategic enforcement priorities.
After completing his term of imprisonment, McIntosh will be required to serve ten years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement. This case was investigated by the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Task Force, the Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Omaha Police Department, and the Council Bluffs Police Department.
This case highlights the ongoing struggle against methamphetamine trafficking in Iowa and the importance of law enforcement working together with community organizations to address this issue. The Council Bluffs Police Department and other agencies will continue to work tirelessly to keep our communities safe from this deadly drug.
