GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – A 39-year-old man from Morristown, Tennessee, has been sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.
Trinity Scott Johnson pleaded guilty in July 2018 to the charges and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge J. Ronnie Greer on October 3, 2018. Johnson admitted to using and selling gram quantities of meth in August 2016 and later purchasing larger quantities from multiple suppliers.
A search of Johnson’s residence in Morristown turned up a large stash of meth, marijuana, and cocaine, as well as several firearms and drug paraphernalia. Johnson’s co-defendants have also pleaded guilty to offenses related to the conspiracy and are awaiting sentencing.
Johnson’s arrest in February 2018 was sparked by a suspicious person report to police. Officers found Johnson leaving an unoccupied residence in Morristown, and a subsequent search of the property uncovered a plastic grocery bag containing a large sealed bag of meth, among other items.
The methamphetamine found in Johnson’s possession weighed 1,169 grams, and the marijuana weighed 25 grams. Johnson also admitted to purchasing at least 15, but not as many as 20, kilograms of meth from one of his suppliers.
Johnson’s sentence is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, a initiative that brings together law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce crime and improve public safety.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert M. Reeves represented the United States in court proceedings. The investigation into Johnson’s activities was a joint effort between the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI.
Johnson’s co-defendants, including Truman Lee Jones, Amanda Marie Hilton, Colby McGwire Scarlett, Jessica James, and Megan Gilliam, are all facing significant prison time for their roles in the conspiracy.
