Meth Queenpin Sentenced to Life Behind Bars
A Dickinson County woman who conspired to distribute massive amounts of methamphetamine has been sentenced to life behind bars after pleading guilty in federal court in Sioux City. Meghan Renken, 29, from Spirit Lake, Iowa, was convicted of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Renken’s involvement in the conspiracy began in July 2018 and continued until March 2020. During this time, she and her co-conspirators distributed over 1,500 grams of pure methamphetamine in the Dickinson County area.
On March 17, 2020, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a co-conspirator’s residence, seizing 20 pounds of methamphetamine. Renken and another co-conspirator were stopped leaving the residence in a vehicle, and a search of the vehicle revealed 3 pounds of pure methamphetamine that they admitted to planning to distribute.
The case was investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force, a multi-agency task force consisting of law enforcement personnel from the Drug Enforcement Administration, Sioux City Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and several other agencies.
Renken faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment, as well as a $10,000,000 fine and up to life of supervised release following any imprisonment.
Renken was taken into custody by the United States Marshal after her guilty plea and will remain in custody pending sentencing. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde. The case file number is 20-4050 and can be found on the U.S. Attorney’s Office website.
