Meth Ring Leader Caught in Sioux Falls

A Sioux Falls woman has been indicted for her alleged role in a large-scale methamphetamine distribution ring that spanned multiple states.

According to court documents, Shawna Provincial, 38, was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 20, 2013, for Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance. The indictment alleges that Provincial conspired with others to distribute methamphetamine in South Dakota and elsewhere from August 2009 to February 2013.

Provincial appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on March 15, 2013, and pled not guilty to the indictment. If convicted, she faces a minimum of 5 up to 40 years’ imprisonment and/or a $5,000,000 fine.

The investigation into Provincial’s alleged crimes is being conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Rapid City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ted L. McBride is prosecuting the case.

Provincial was released on bond pending trial, which has been set for May 28, 2013. The charge against her is merely an accusation, and she is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The indictment is a significant blow to the alleged methamphetamine ring, which is believed to have operated for several years. The investigation into the ring is ongoing, and authorities are working to bring other suspected members to justice.

As the case against Provincial moves forward, residents of Sioux Falls and surrounding areas can rest a little easier knowing that law enforcement is working tirelessly to combat the scourge of methamphetamine trafficking.
