Methamphetamine Ring Busted in Wyoming
Wyoming has seen a significant crackdown on methamphetamine trafficking with the sentencing of three key players in the illicit drug trade. Janet Lea Lilly, 50, of Gillette, Wyoming, was the mastermind behind the operation.
Lilly was sentenced by Federal District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl on May 8, 2014, for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute methamphetamine. Lilly received 87 months imprisonment, to be followed by four years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a $500.00 fine and a $100.00 special assessment.
The operation, which was investigated by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, had far-reaching consequences, with a significant impact on the local community. The investigation revealed a complex web of drug distribution, with Lilly at the center.
Robert William Bower, 28, of Evanston, Wyoming, was also sentenced for his role in the operation. Bower was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, at least 500 grams to 1.5 kilograms of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine. Bower received 78 months imprisonment, to be followed by five years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a $200.00 fine and a $100.00 special assessment.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration assisted in the investigation, which was a significant blow to the methamphetamine trade in Wyoming. The sentencing of Lilly and Bower marks a major victory in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the state.
Jose Gabriel Martinez-Sanchez, 23, of Mexico, was also sentenced in connection with the operation. Martinez-Sanchez was found guilty of illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien into the United States. Martinez-Sanchez was arrested in Jackson, Wyoming, and received time served, plus 10 days, was ordered to pay a $100.00 special assessment, and is subject to deportation upon release from custody.
The sentencing of these three individuals serves as a stark reminder of the harsh penalties faced by those involved in the methamphetamine trade. As the state continues to grapple with the consequences of this devastating drug, law enforcement agencies remain committed to dismantling the complex networks of drug distribution and bringing those responsible to justice.
The investigation and sentencing of Lilly, Bower, and Martinez-Sanchez are a testament to the dedication and perseverance of law enforcement agencies in Wyoming. As the state looks to the future, it is clear that a concerted effort will be required to address the root causes of the methamphetamine epidemic and prevent further devastation in the community.
