Alexsander Padro, Fentanyl Distribution, Massachusetts 2021

BOSTON – In a stunning turn of events, 28-year-old Methuen native Alexsander Padro stood before U.S. District Court Chief Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV in Boston today, pleading guilty to distributing over 40 grams of fentanyl. The court set sentencing for January 8, 2021.

Padro’s descent into the dark world of drug trafficking began when he sold a substantial amount of the deadly substance to an undercover officer in March 2019. Less than four months later, on July 10, 2019, law enforcement officers arrested Padro after he sold over 40 grams of fentanyl at a local Methuen restaurant to another cooperating source.

The DEA and other federal agencies have been relentless in their pursuit of Padro, who also faced charges for selling $1,000 worth of fentanyl in April 2019. The court documents paint a grim picture of the drug trade in the region, with Padro being one of several high-profile arrests made by federal authorities.

Padro is staring down a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and potentially up to four decades behind bars. Alongside this heavy prison term, he faces supervised release that could last a lifetime and a fine upwards of $5 million. Sentencing will be determined based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling and Brian D. Boyle, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA’s New England Field Division, announced the charges against Padro today. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Abely, Deputy Chief of Lelling’s Major Crimes Unit, is leading the prosecution.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangerous fentanyl crisis gripping our nation, with Massachusetts at the forefront of this ongoing battle against drug trafficking and addiction. As law enforcement agencies continue their efforts to crack down on these activities, communities like Methuen are hoping for a safer future free from the clutches of illegal drugs.
