Mexican National Charged with Illegally Reentering U.S.
Raul Zarazua-Rubio, 46, of Mexico, faces serious charges after allegedly reentering the United States on September 1, 2014.
According to United States Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach, an indictment was filed against Zarazua-Rubio, charging him with unlawful reentry into the United States. If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after reviewing factors unique to this case, including Zarazua-Rubio’s prior criminal record, if any, and his role in the offense and the characteristics of the violation.
In a statement, Dettelbach emphasized that the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and will be less than the maximum in most cases. The investigating agency in this case is the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, Strongsville, Ohio.
The case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Noah P. Hood. An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt, a reminder that a defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
