Juan Carlos Nunez Reyes, a 34-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for unlawfully reentering the United States after being removed twice. The incident occurred in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Nunez Reyes was found with marijuana and a fake ID. He had been banned from a local casino in 2023 for passing a counterfeit check and possessing drug paraphernalia.
Nunez Reyes was arrested in 2025 after attempting to enter the same casino while hiding his face with a mask. When approached by security and law enforcement, he provided a false name and date of birth before eventually revealing his true identity. A search of his person turned up his Mexican citizen identification and marijuana.
Further investigation revealed that Nunez Reyes had been removed from the United States in 2012 and 2021. He has a history of convictions, including unlawfully possessing an unregistered short-barreled rifle and driving without a license. Homeland Security Investigations handled the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kate Brandon prosecuting.
Nunez Reyes will face removal proceedings after completing his sentence. U.S. District Judge Joseph N. Laplante handed down the 18-month prison term, to be followed by three years of supervised release.
