PHILADELPHIA – Two Mexican nationals have been handed down prison sentences for their illegal reentry into the United States, marking a significant victory in the ongoing battle against immigration violations. David Gonzalez-Castillo, 47, was sentenced by Judge Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro to two years in prison for illegal reentry after being removed from the U.S. four times previously. His latest encounter with authorities came when he was arrested by the Coatesville (Pa.) Police Department in October 2024.
Gonzalez-Castillo’s previous deportations were in March 2009, July 2009, and twice in August 2009, following encounters with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Border Patrol. He was finally taken into custody by ICE in March of this year after being convicted of simple assault in the Chester County Court of Common Pleas.
Saul Lopez Rodriguez, 32, has also been sentenced to prison, facing six months behind bars for illegal reentry. His own record includes four deportations, including a 2016 encounter with U.S. Border Patrol in New Mexico. ICE learned of his latest arrest by the Norristown (Pa.) Police Department in July 2024.
Both cases are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations. The sentences reflect the commitment of the Department of Justice to protect communities from violent crime and ensure that those who violate immigration laws face consequences.
The investigations were led by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, with Assistant United States Attorneys Francis Weber and Erica Kivitz handling the prosecutions.
