Miguel Salomon-Lugo, Smuggling Resulting in Death, Arizona 2024

TUCSON, Ariz. – A chilling tale of human trafficking turned tragic as a federal grand jury in Tucson returned a seven-count indictment against Miguel Salomon-Lugo, 40, of Chihuahua, Mexico. Charges include smuggling illegal aliens for profit resulting in death, bringing in illegal aliens for profit, smuggling illegal aliens for profit, and conspiracy to smuggle illegal aliens for profit.

The horror unfolded on June 19 when Border Patrol Agents found two illegal aliens near Arivaca, Arizona, in desperate need of help. One man had already perished after falling down a treacherous ravine. Salomon-Lugo is accused of being one of the foot guides who brought them across the border.

According to court documents, the deceased became faint due to heat and fell into the ravine after being ordered by a guide to continue despite his condition. His uncle stayed with him as the group moved on, while other members were instructed to leave him behind.

A conviction for smuggling illegal aliens for profit resulting in death carries a maximum penalty of death. This grim case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative targeting illegal immigration and violent crime.

Investigation was led by the United States Border Patrol, with prosecution handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona, Tucson. It’s crucial to remember that an indictment is merely a charge, and Salomon-Lugo is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
