MIAMI – In a stunning display of identity deceit, Alfred L. Davis, 50, a Miami resident, was convicted on May 15 by a federal jury for using a counterfeit access device in a brazen scheme to infiltrate a luxury condominium in Sunny Isles, Florida.
Davis, a known felon, employed a fraudulent Florida driver’s license to pass as a legitimate resident. This deceit allowed him to gain full access to the upscale amenities of the building, all while his criminal background was concealed from board members who evaluated his qualifications.
“The use of fake identification to gain entry into private properties is not only illegal but also a direct attack on community trust,” said U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe for the Southern District of Florida. “Davis’s actions illustrate the lengths some individuals will go to in order to avoid accountability.”
The sentencing hearing, set for July 11 before U.S. District Judge Jose E. Martinez, will decide Davis’s fate. The defendant faces up to a decade behind bars as a result of his actions.
“The FBI Miami Field Office took this case seriously and pursued it diligently,” said Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey B. Veltri. “Our investigation revealed the extent of Davis’s deception, and we will continue to work tirelessly to uphold the rule of law.”
The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonathan Bailyn and Katie L. Sadlo, with asset forfeiture managed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mitchell Hyman.
