Micah R. Vickery, Child Pornography Charges, South Carolina 2023

Columbia, South Carolina – In a shocking turn of events, Micah R. Vickery, a 37-year-old man from Greenville, has pleaded guilty to child pornography charges in federal court in Anderson, SC.

According to sources close to the investigation, law enforcement conducted a proactive investigation involving a file-sharing network used by individuals with an interest in child pornography. An undercover officer downloaded a video that Vickery had available for sharing, which led to a federal search warrant being obtained and executed.

Electronic devices were seized during the search, and law enforcement found a staggering 900 images of child pornography. Vickery reportedly admitted to having a problem with all sorts of pornography and admitted to searching for and downloading child pornography. The images found on his devices included children under the age of 18, some prepubescent, engaged in the lascivious display of the genitals and sexual activity.

US Attorney Beth Drake stated that the maximum penalty Vickery can receive is a fine of $250,000 and/or imprisonment for 20 years, supervised release of up to life, plus a special assessment of $100.

The case was investigated by agents with ICE – Homeland Security Investigations, with Assistant United States Attorney Bill Watkins of the Greenville office handling the case.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims.
