Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Child Pornography Offenses

In a grim reminder of the dangers of child predators, a Baldwin, Illinois man has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his involvement in child pornography.

Michael A. Nieweglowski, 45, also known as ‘Tony,’ was sentenced in federal district court on March 21, 2014, on a three-count indictment charging him with Receipt of Visual Depictions of Minors Engaged in Sexually Explicit Conduct (Count 1), Access with Intent to View Visual Depictions of Minors Engaged in Sexually Explicit Conduct (Count 2), and Possession of Visual Depictions of Minors Engaged in Sexually Explicit Conduct (Count 3).

The investigation into Nieweglowski’s activities began on January 14, 2011, when suspected child pornography was found on a printer in his parents’ home. A subsequent search of his camper trailer and laptop computer revealed numerous visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, including images of prepubescent minors and sadistic behavior.

During his sentencing hearing, evidence was presented that another relative had come forward to report that Nieweglowski had molested them since they were five years old. Nieweglowski had previously been convicted of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault for molesting a five-year-old relative and was on mandatory supervised release at the time of the investigation.

Nieweglowski was sentenced to 180 months in federal prison on all counts, to run concurrently, followed by a lifetime term of supervised release on all counts, again to run concurrently. He was also ordered to pay $632.71 in restitution, fined $500, and pay a $300 special assessment. Upon his release from prison, Nieweglowski must register as a sex offender as a condition of supervised release.

According to United States Attorney Stephen R. Wigginton, ‘Predators, like this person, must face long sentences if we are to protect our children from them.’ The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of child predators and the importance of holding them accountable for their heinous crimes.

Nieweglowski has been detained by the United States Marshals Service since his arraignment on May 1, 2013.
