Defendant Indicted for Possessing Firearm While Prohibited
A North Carolina man has been sentenced to time served for being a felon in possession of a firearm in New York.
Michael Alan Jones, 24, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was sentenced to time served (10 months) by U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer.
Jones was previously convicted in Alamance County, North Carolina, of two felony crimes in February 2019. As a result, he is legally prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. On March 19, 2022, Jones was found to possess a semiautomatic rifle and ammunition in a vehicle in the vicinity of Route 33 and Griswold Road and School Road in the Town of Leroy, Genesee County.
The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff William Sheron, Jr., and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia.
Jones’ crime was discovered after a thorough investigation by law enforcement agencies in New York and North Carolina.
