OCALA, FL – Michael Guy Dambrosia, 61, of Ocala, Florida, has confessed to a disturbing pattern of criminal behavior, pleading guilty to both interstate transmission of a threat to injure and providing a false statement during an attempted firearm purchase. The case, investigated by the U.S. Capitol Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), paints a picture of a man determined to circumvent the law and unleash violence.
The trouble began on August 30, 2021, when Dambrosia attempted to buy a gun from a local, licensed firearms dealer. He checked “no” on the federal form when asked if he was a convicted felon – a blatant lie, according to court documents. The attempted purchase was flagged, but the more sinister side of Dambrosia’s intentions would soon surface.
Over a year later, on January 30, 2023, Dambrosia dialed a number that connected him to an office in Washington, D.C. What followed was a venomous, obscenity-laced voicemail, a direct and chilling threat to kill the intended victim. The call crossed state lines, escalating the crime to a federal offense and bringing the U.S. Capitol Police into the investigation.
Federal prosecutors, Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Joe Wheeler III and Assistant U.S. Attorney Tyrie Boyer, presented the evidence leading to Dambrosia’s guilty plea. While the victim’s identity remains undisclosed, the content of the threat clearly demonstrated a malicious intent that couldn’t be ignored. The ATF’s involvement underscores the agency’s focus on preventing firearms from falling into the hands of those who would use them for unlawful purposes.
Dambrosia now faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been determined, leaving the question of justice hanging over this case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, led by Roger B. Handberg, will ultimately determine the extent of Dambrosia’s punishment.
This case serves as a stark reminder that threats – especially those crossing state lines – are taken seriously by federal authorities. Lying on federal firearms forms carries severe consequences, and attempts to arm oneself illegally will be met with aggressive prosecution. Dambrosia’s actions demonstrate a disregard for the law and a willingness to resort to violence, behaviors that have earned him a date with the federal justice system.
