Michael Donyell Robinson, Counterfeit Currency, Drug Trafficking, Gun Possession, South Carolina 2015

ANDERSON, South Carolina – In a shocking turn of events, Michael Donyell Robinson, a 35-year-old Anderson resident, has been sentenced to 78 months in prison for his involvement in a string of serious crimes.

According to court records, Robinson was found guilty of conspiracy to sell counterfeit federal reserve notes, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 371, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 924(c).

The case began on November 17, 2015, when a deputy from the Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a car driven by Tempest Campbell for a traffic violation. During the stop, the deputy discovered that Campbell’s license was expired and Robinson, who was a passenger, was wanted on warrants out of North Carolina.

When questioned about his nervous behavior, Robinson handed the deputy a bag containing $9,760 in counterfeit currency and two plastic bags containing MDMA and methamphetamine. Further investigation revealed that Campbell and Robinson had previously sold counterfeit currency to a third party.

Robinson, who has prior felony convictions, was prohibited from possessing a firearm. The investigation also uncovered a .22 caliber pistol with one round in the chamber in Campbell’s purse, as well as additional cocaine, crack, and a digital scale around Robinson’s seat.

The case was investigated by agents of the United States Secret Service, ATF, and the Abbeville Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Jamie Lea Schoen of the Greenville office prosecuted the case.

Robinson has remained in custody since his arrest and will now serve 78 months in prison for his crimes. His case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of counterfeiting and the importance of being vigilant in the fight against crime.
