A convicted felon from Ocala, Florida, is facing serious federal charges after making a threatening phone call and lying about his firearm history.
Micheal Guy Dambrosia, 61, attempted to purchase a firearm from a local federally licensed firearms dealer on August 30, 2021. In the paperwork necessary to purchase the firearm, Dambrosia falsely stated that he was not a convicted felon.
This is a serious offense, as felons are prohibited from owning firearms under federal law.
Later, on January 30, 2023, Dambrosia made an obscene, threatening phone call to the victim, stating multiple times that he would kill the victim.
The indictment charges Dambrosia with interstate transmission of a threat to injure and making a false statement in connection with the attempted purchase of a firearm. If convicted on both counts, Dambrosia faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.
An indictment is a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The case was investigated by the United States Capitol Police – Threat Assessment Section and will be prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Joe Wheeler, III and Assistant United States Attorney Tyrie Boyer.
Dambrosia’s alleged crimes are a serious reminder of the importance of following federal laws regarding firearms and the consequences of making threats against others.
