JAMESTOWN, NY – Two men are off the streets and headed to federal prison after being sentenced for their involvement in a Jamestown-area methamphetamine distribution network. Michael Murphy, 31, of Jamestown, received a staggering 192 months – sixteen years – in prison after being convicted of narcotics conspiracy. Jarrod Adams, 43, of Erie, PA, was handed a 108-month sentence (nine years) for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
The case, prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua A. Violanti, revealed a sophisticated operation running from June 2019 to October 2020. Murphy wasn’t dealing on street corners; he was using Facebook to connect with buyers and move product. A July 2019 raid by the U.S. Marshal’s Service on a Bishop Street residence led to Murphy’s arrest along with Adams. Investigators seized methamphetamine, $1,476 in cash, and drug paraphernalia from the scene.
But the bust at Bishop Street was just the beginning. Murphy wasn’t operating alone. Evidence showed he was supplied by both Adams and another co-conspirator, Rocco Beardsley. He, in turn, allegedly distributed the meth to other players in the Jamestown drug scene. A subsequent search of Murphy’s Newland Avenue residence in November 2019 yielded even more incriminating evidence: methamphetamine, illicit mushrooms, additional drug paraphernalia, two firearms, ammunition, and another $1,642 in cash.
The investigation, which is part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) program, underscores the federal government’s commitment to dismantling large-scale drug operations. OCDETF utilizes a multi-agency, intelligence-driven approach, and in this case, brought together the Jamestown Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
Beardsley, the third key player in the supply chain, is now scheduled to face trial in March 2024. Authorities aren’t commenting on potential plea negotiations. Jamestown Police Chief Timothy Jackson, DEA Special Agent-in-Charge Frank A. Tarentino III, ATF Special Agent-in-Charge John B. DeVito, and Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone all played critical roles in building the case and securing the convictions.
The sentences serve as a grim reminder that even in smaller cities like Jamestown, the methamphetamine trade is a serious federal crime with severe consequences. The feds are clearly determined to cut off the supply at the source, regardless of how tech-savvy the dealers may be. The investigation remains active, and further arrests are possible.
