Local Man Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Hobbs Act Robbery

A 59-year-old Milwaukee woman was left shaken after a terrifying home invasion in June 2021. Michael Robertson, a Milwaukee resident, burst into her home armed with two firearms, demanding her money and property.

According to court documents, Robertson fired his gun into the victim’s couch twice and pistol-whipped her in the head when she resisted. He then stole her bag containing U.S. currency and various controlled substances before fleeing the scene.

Robertson was subsequently charged under the Hobbs Act, a federal law that prohibits robbery affecting interstate commerce. He also faced a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence for discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.

On April 21, 2022, United States District Judge Lynn Adelman sentenced Robertson to 15 years in federal prison after he pled guilty to the charges.

The case was investigated by the FBI’s Milwaukee Area Violent Crimes Task Force and the Milwaukee Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Abbey M. Marzick prosecuted the case.

Robertson’s sentence is a stark reminder of the severity of Hobbs Act robbery and the consequences of using violence to commit a crime. The FBI and local law enforcement agencies will continue to work together to ensure that those who commit such crimes are held accountable.
