Michael Snyder, Methamphetamine Distribution, Indiana 2022
SOUTH BEND – A 35-year-old man from Francesville, Indiana, was sentenced to 72 months in prison for his role in distributing a significant amount of methamphetamine in the region, announced United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson.
Michael Snyder, 35, pleaded guilty in two separate cases, one for distributing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and the other for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. United States District Court Judge Robert L. Miller, Jr. handed down the sentence, which includes 3 years of supervised release following Snyder’s prison term.
According to court documents, the investigation into Snyder’s activities began in November 2021, when he was stopped by law enforcement officers while driving a stolen vehicle in Mishawaka. A loaded, stolen handgun was recovered from under his seat, and it was later revealed that Snyder had a prior felony conviction, making him prohibited from possessing the firearm.
In April 2022, an investigation discovered that Snyder was the source of a pound of methamphetamine that was sold in Winamac, Indiana. The cases were investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Porter County Multi-Enforcement Group, and the Mishawaka Police Department.
The cases were prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joel Gabrielse. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and community members to make neighborhoods safer.
Through PSN, the government focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting organizations that prevent violence, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results of these efforts. In May 2021, the government launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles.
