Smuggling Drugs into Federal Prison Lands Woman in Hot Water
A disturbing case of smuggling drugs into a federal prison has come to light in Ocala, Florida. Michelle Nicole Marie Brannon, 36, of Lake County, has pleaded guilty to making a materially false statement or representation to a federal agency and providing contraband to a federal prisoner.
The federal government is taking these charges very seriously, with Brannon facing a maximum of five years in federal prison on each of the offenses.
According to court records, Brannon visited her brother, an inmate at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex in Sumter County, on April 27, 2025. During the visitation screening process, she made a materially false representation to a correctional officer that she did not have any narcotics in her possession.
Despite her denials, Brannon was caught providing her brother with buprenorphine, a Schedule III controlled substance. Federal inmates are prohibited from possessing controlled substances in the prison facility.
This case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Nowalk Watson is handling the prosecution.
The sentencing date for Brannon has not yet been set.
