Eight defendants, linked to South Bay-based drug trafficking organizations, have been charged with narcotics trafficking crimes in California. The indictment, announced by United States Attorney David L. Anderson, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent in Charge Daniel C. Comeaux, and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Special Agent in Charge Tatum King, outlines the alleged crimes committed by the defendants.
According to the indictment, the defendants were involved in a complex web of methamphetamine trafficking, with transactions taking place in San Jose, Tracy, Mountain View, and Gilroy. The indictment describes how the defendants used various methods to distribute the methamphetamine, including using a confidential source to conduct controlled purchases.
One of the complaints describes how on May 5, 2019, a confidential source sought to purchase three pounds of methamphetamine from Eleazar Garcia, aka Jr. Garcia obtained the drugs in Mountain View from co-defendant Misael Barajas and then exchanged the drugs in Gilroy with the confidential source for $5,100. Garcia then arranged to have proceeds from the sale of the drugs delivered to Barajas.
The indictment charges the defendants with various crimes, including conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute and distribution of 500 grams and more of a mixture containing methamphetamine, and conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams and more of a mixture containing methamphetamine and cocaine.
The defendants face serious penalties, with some facing up to life in prison and fines of up to $10 million. The indictment marks a significant blow to the South Bay-based drug trafficking organizations and highlights the efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat narcotics trafficking in the region.
The indictment is a result of an investigation by the DEA and HSI, which began in early 2019. The agencies used various tools, including a confidential source and court-ordered telephonic communications intercepts, to gather evidence regarding the defendants. The indictment is a testament to the dedication and perseverance of law enforcement agencies in their efforts to bring narcotics traffickers to justice.
The defendants are scheduled to appear in court to face the charges against them. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
