Local Man Sentenced for Gun Possession with Drugs

In a recent hearing at the United States District Court, Shawn Ephisian Taylor, a Mobile resident, was sentenced to 70 months for being in possession of a firearm as an illegal drug user.

According to court documents, Taylor had pleaded guilty in April 2014 to the charge of being an illegal drug user in possession of a firearm, a violation of Title 18, United States Code Section 922(g)(3).

Chief United States District Court Judge William H. Steele presided over the hearing and handed down the sentence, taking into account Taylor’s criminal history and the circumstances of the offense.

As part of the sentence, Taylor will also serve a three-year term of supervised release following his imprisonment.

The investigation into Taylor’s activities was led by Sgt. Louis Screws of the Mobile Police Department, who is also assigned as a Task Force Officer with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives.

Taylor’s sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of violating federal gun laws, particularly for those with a history of drug use.

The Southern District of Alabama’s United States Attorney, Kenyen R. Brown, praised the efforts of the investigators and expressed his commitment to keeping communities safe from gun violence.
