Tucson Woman Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Fentanyl Trafficking

A repeat offender has been brought to justice in Tucson, Arizona. Modesta Solano, 51, was sentenced by United States District Judge John C. Hinderaker to 10 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

Solano pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute fentanyl on April 6, 2022. This is not her first run-in with the law, as she was previously convicted of a felony drug offense and was prohibited from possessing firearms.

The investigation into Solano’s activities began in October 2020, after she sold a handgun and over 4,000 fentanyl pills to an undercover agent in Tucson. Solano was on supervision at the time of the crime and was aware of her firearm prohibition.

The case was a collaborative effort between Homeland Security Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Tucson Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stefani Hepford handled the prosecution.

Solano’s sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of breaking the law. Her actions put countless lives at risk, and her punishment reflects the severity of her crimes.
