Monaca Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Child Exploitation

A former resident of Monaca, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in the sexual exploitation of two minors. Nicholas Sittig, 28, was handed down the sentence by United States District Judge William S. Stickman IV on June 23, 2025.

According to the Department of Justice, Sittig induced a minor residing in California to produce a visual depiction of the minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct for Sittig’s sexual gratification. The exploitation occurred from August 2023 to April 2024, with Sittig using the internet to facilitate the crime.

In addition to the exploitation, Sittig also obstructed justice by inducing the minor to aid him in destroying records and documents related to his offenses. This was discovered in December 2023, when Sittig became aware of a federal investigation into his activities.

Agents with Homeland Security Investigations identified a second minor residing in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, whom Sittig similarly exploited online from December 2023 to March 2024. The seriousness of Sittig’s offenses and the harm caused to his victims were acknowledged by Judge Stickman prior to imposing sentence.

Assistant United States Attorney Heidi M. Grogan prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti commended the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, including Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, and the Monaca Police Department.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The sentence handed down to Sittig is a stark reminder of the severity of child exploitation crimes and the importance of continued efforts to investigate and prosecute those responsible. As the nation continues to grapple with the issue of child sexual exploitation, cases like Sittig’s serve as a reminder of the need for vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the community.

In a statement, Acting United States Attorney Rivetti emphasized the importance of protecting children from predators like Sittig. “The sentence imposed on Nicholas Sittig is a testament to the commitment of our office and our law enforcement partners to holding accountable those who prey on our children,” he said.
