Dubuque Man Sentenced to 42 Years for Sexually Exploiting Child
A 41-year-old Dubuque man has been sentenced to 42 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting a child and distributing child pornography. John James Dixon received the harsh sentence on Tuesday after a guilty plea to sexual exploitation of a child and distribution of child pornography.
Evidence presented in court showed that between August 2023 and May 2024, Dixon and his co-conspirator, 32-year-old Justin James Paisley, committed multiple acts of sexual abuse against a prepubescent child. They photographed and videotaped the child engaging in sexual conduct and sent the images to each other via text message.
Paisley also photographed a second prepubescent child engaged in sexually explicit conduct and sent the photograph to Dixon. The disturbing crimes were uncovered through a joint investigation led by the Dubuque Police Department.
Dixon was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams. He will serve 504 months in prison, pay $6,000 in special assessments, and serve a 5-year term of supervised release after his prison term.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
The Dubuque man is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison to begin serving his sentence. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Devra T. Hake.
The harsh sentence sends a clear message that the federal government will not tolerate crimes of this nature. Dixon’s exploitation of a child is a despicable act that has caused irreparable harm to the victim and their family.
As part of Project Safe Childhood, the Department of Justice provides resources and information to help prevent child sexual exploitation and abuse. For more information, visit www.usdoj.gov/psc.
