Craig Kimmel, Attempting to Produce Visual Depictions Involving the Sexual Exploitation of a Child, Pennsylvania 2025

HARRISBURG — The grim halls of justice echo with the name of Craig Kimmel, 54, a native of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, who now finds himself staring down a federal indictment for child exploitation offenses. Yesterday, on August 6, 2025, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Kimmel has been charged by a federal grand jury.

The charges against Kimmel are severe: he is accused of attempting to produce visual depictions involving the sexual exploitation of a child. The indictment reveals a dark history, stating that Kimmel was previously convicted in Schuylkill County for indecent assault and attempted statutory rape—a history that now mandates a minimum sentence of 25 years for this new offense.

But the allegations don’t stop there. Kimmel is also charged with coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in prostitution, as well as any sexual activity he could be charged with under the law. The gravity of these charges is underscored by the potential maximum penalty: a lifetime term of imprisonment, supervised release following imprisonment, and a substantial fine.

The investigation into Kimmel was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Pennsylvania State Police, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Dukes will handle the prosecution. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat the burgeoning epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Under this program, federal, state, and local resources converge to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims. For more information on Project Safe Childhood, visit www.usdoj.gov/psc.

It’s a reminder that in the fight against child exploitation, every effort counts, and Kimmel’s case is one more step towards ensuring justice for the most vulnerable. As it stands, Kimmel remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
