BOSTON – In a hard-hitting blow to the Massachusetts drug trade, Ismael Maysonet, 44, of Southbridge, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role as chief lieutenant of a ruthless drug trafficking organization (DTO) that spread cocaine and fentanyl across the North Shore and Central Massachusetts regions.
The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Margaret R. Guzman, comes after Maysonet was convicted following a six-day jury trial for conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine and fentanyl, and possession with intent to distribute over 40 grams of fentanyl.
Maysonet’s reign of terror began in September 2022 when he was charged alongside 21 co-conspirators. In the year leading up to his conviction, Maysonet served as a key figure in distributing drugs at the behest of DTO leaders Jonathan Pizarro Gonzalez and Isaac Gonzalez. The DTO utilized the U.S. mail system to traffic large quantities of cocaine from Puerto Rico and fentanyl across state lines.
As chief lieutenant, Maysonet was deeply involved in coordinating drug shipments, negotiating with suppliers, and ensuring the organization’s operations ran smoothly. His efforts led to the distribution of over 700 grams of fentanyl and three kilograms of cocaine, as well as his involvement in a package seizure by law enforcement. The investigation yielded nine kilograms of cocaine and 800 grams of fentanyl.
During the trial in February 2025, Maysonet’s aggression reached new heights when he threatened a federal witness. His actions did not go unpunished; alongside his prison sentence, he faces five years of supervised release.
This conviction is a testament to the efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and several local police departments. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stephen W. Hassink and Samuel R. Feldman led the prosecution of the case, which was part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation.
Jonathan Pizarro Gonzalez and Isaac Gonzalez, who also played significant roles in the DTO, pleaded guilty earlier this year and were sentenced to 10 and 15 years respectively. The successful dismantling of this criminal organization serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against organized crime and drug trafficking in Massachusetts.
