Montana Man Sentenced for Health Care Fraud

A Montana man has been sentenced for his role in a Health Care Fraud scheme that involved the theft of painkillers from his former workplace. Dean L. Hodges, a 59-year-old former Chief Pharmacist at the Kyle Health Center in Colstrip, Montana, was sentenced to 2 years of probation and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, as well as restitution in the amount of $686.

Hodges was convicted of Health Care Fraud after a federal grand jury indicted him on charges of Theft in Connection with Health Care, Health Care Fraud, False Statements Relating to Health Care Matters, and Acquiring Controlled Substances by Fraud in February 2014.

The conviction stems from Hodges’ actions between January and October 2013, while he was employed by the Indian Health Services as the Chief Pharmacist for the Kyle Health Center. During this time, he took Hydrocodone and Codeine for his own use.

Hodges pled guilty to Health Care Fraud on June 30, 2014, and was subsequently sentenced by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court, on October 16, 2014. The investigation into Hodges’ activities was conducted by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspector General.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich prosecuted the case against Hodges. The sentencing of the former pharmacist serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in Health Care Fraud and the importance of maintaining integrity in the healthcare industry.

As a result of Hodges’ actions, the integrity of the healthcare system has been compromised, and patients who rely on the services of the Kyle Health Center have been put at risk. The sentencing of Hodges is a step towards restoring trust in the healthcare industry and ensuring that those who engage in Health Care Fraud are held accountable for their actions.

The case against Hodges is a prime example of the importance of vigilance in the healthcare industry and the need for strict regulations to prevent Health Care Fraud.
