Monte D. Perry, Firearm Offenses, Illinois 2014

Madison Resident Pleads Guilty to Firearm Offenses

In a shocking turn of events, Monte D. Perry, a 26-year-old resident of Madison, Illinois, has pleaded guilty to two serious firearm offenses. On December 15, 2014, Perry entered a guilty plea to a two-count Indictment charging him with Illegal Transfer of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Previously Convicted Felon.

According to the evidence presented in court, Perry was convicted of a felony offense in Madison County in 2009. On a controlled buy, Perry sold a sawed-off shotgun to a confidential source, who was equipped with a video camera. During the transaction, Perry was overheard discussing the characteristics of the gun, clearly indicating that he knew it had been sawed-off.

After being paid for the shotgun, Perry wiped his fingerprints from the gun before placing it in the backseat of the confidential source’s vehicle. This brazen act of gun trafficking has left law enforcement officials stunned.

The case against Perry was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Angela Scott is handling the case.

Perry faces a federal prison term of not more than ten years, a fine up to $250,000, or both, and a term of supervised release of not more than three years. His sentencing is scheduled for April 13, 2015, in East St. Louis, Illinois.

Perry has been detained since his arraignment on the Indictment on September 26, 2014. The full weight of the law is now closing in on Perry, and it remains to be seen what the consequences of his actions will be.
