WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – The grimy streets of Marshall County are once again under the shadow of law enforcement after Dustin L. White, a 31-year-old resident of Moundsville, was indicted by a federal grand jury today on an array of drug and firearms charges.
In what seems to be a relentless pursuit of justice, United States Attorney Bill Powell announced that White is accused of conspiring to possess with intent to distribute and distribute cocaine and methamphetamine between July 2018 and March 2019. The investigation reveals that White’s reach extended beyond county lines as he allegedly distributed the illegal substances in various locations.
The indictment lists numerous charges against White, including one count of false statement to acquire a firearm, three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession with intent to distribute both cocaine and methamphetamine. The most ominous charge is the one of unlawful possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking, which could lead to life imprisonment if convicted.
White’s illegal activities were not confined to drugs; he is also alleged to have been in possession of a cache of firearms that included two pistols, a revolver, and a shotgun. These firearms were seized in Marshall County during February and March 2019.
The potential sentences for White are staggering, with the firearm during drug trafficking charge carrying five years to life incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000. The conspiracy charge and methamphetamine charge could result in up to 20 years’ imprisonment, while the cocaine and other firearms counts carry a maximum of 10 years’ incarceration.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice initiative aimed at reducing violent crime. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert H. McWilliams, Jr., is handling the prosecution on behalf of the government, with investigations conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Marshall County Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force.
Despite the grave charges against him, Dustin L. White remains a defendant in this case, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The gritty realities of his alleged actions underscore the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and gun violence in West Virginia.
