BRUSKIVILLE, NY — Juan Amaya-Ramirez, alias ‘Cadaver,’ an associate of the notorious La Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang, was handed a 45-year sentence yesterday in Brooklyn federal court for his role in the chilling murder of 17-year-old Andy Peralta on April 23, 2018.
Amaya-Ramirez and co-defendant Oscar Flores-Mejia, known as ‘Chamuco,’ were both implicated in the brutal slaying. They pleaded guilty to the murder in September 2024, with Flores-Mejia awaiting his own sentencing.
‘The senselessness of this murder is matched only by its brutality,’ said Joseph Nocella, Jr., United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. ‘Bringing those who commit violent crimes to justice is one of our Office’s highest priorities.’
FBI Assistant Director in Charge Christopher G. Raia emphasized the gang’s disregard for human life: ‘The defendant unjustly sentenced Peralta to a horrific death due to a false perception of his status as a rival. The FBI continues to make significant strides in Operation Summer Heat to hold accountable gang members like Amaya-Ramirez who act as judge, jury, and executioner.’
HSI Special Agent in Charge Ricky J. Patel highlighted the ongoing battle against gang violence: ‘Andy Peralta’s murder is a chilling reminder of MS-13’s callous disregard for human life. HSI New York will not stand by as our streets are overrun by violent gang members. The eradication of gang violence on Long Island and throughout the state remains an utmost priority.’
The brutal attack began when Flores-Mejia bought black winter gloves and a knife, while Carranza messaged Peralta to lure him to Kissena Park. Amaya-Ramirez, Flores-Mejia, and their 16-year-old accomplice awaited Peralta’s arrival. After a beating and attempted strangulation, Peralta was hacked with a knife and his lifeless body photographed by the attackers before being dumped in a small body of water.
