Muzamil Aden Addow, Possession of Firearms by Unregistered Alien, Minnesota 2021

A Canadian man’s reckless behavior behind the wheel led to a major discovery in a Minnesota road stop, resulting in a guilty plea for possession of firearms by an unregistered alien.

On January 10, 2021, Muzamil Aden Addow, 30, and his co-defendant Dayne Adrian Sitladeen, 29, were stopped by a Minnesota State Patrol Trooper near Fergus Falls, Minnesota. The defendants were traveling between 95-100 miles per hour in a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with Texas license plates.

When the Trooper approached the vehicle, Addow provided an Ontario, Canada, driver’s license with a false name. This suspicious behavior, combined with the odor of marijuana in the vehicle and inconsistent statements from Addow and Sitladeen, led the Trooper to search the vehicle.

As a result of the search, law enforcement officers recovered a total of 67 firearms and numerous pistol magazines, including 15 high-capacity pistol magazines, from four bags in the truck—one pistol magazine was partially loaded with live ammunition rounds.

According to court documents, Addow pleaded guilty today to possessing a firearm as an alien illegally or unlawfully in the United States, announced Acting U.S. Attorney W. Anders Folk.

This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Minnesota State Patrol.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Samantha Bates.
