Canadian Man Sentenced for Aiding Unlawful Firearm Possession

A Canadian man was sentenced to 68 months in prison for aiding and abetting unlawful firearm possession, announced Acting United States Attorney Charles J. Kovats in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Muzamil Aden Addow, 30, pleaded guilty on July 27, 2021, to one count of aiding and abetting firearm possession by aliens unlawfully in the United States.

According to court documents, on January 10, 2021, Addow and co-defendant Dayne Adrian Sitladeen were stopped by a Minnesota State Patrol Trooper near Fergus Falls, Minnesota. The defendants were traveling between 95-100 miles per hour in a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with Texas license plates.

When the Trooper approached the vehicle, Addow, the driver, provided an Ontario, Canada, driver’s license with a false name. After detecting the odor of marijuana in the vehicle and receiving suspicious and inconsistent statements from Addow and Sitladeen, the Trooper searched the vehicle. As a result of the search, law enforcement officers recovered a total of 67 firearms and numerous pistol magazines, including 15 high-capacity pistol magazines, from four bags in the truck—one pistol magazine was partially loaded with live ammunition rounds.

Addow’s co-defendant, Dayne Adrian Sitladeen, was sentenced to 78 months in prison on December 8, 2021. The case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Minnesota State Patrol.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Samantha Bates. Muzamil Aden Addow is currently serving a 68-month prison sentence for aiding and abetting unlawful firearm possession. The case highlights the importance of vigilance on the nation’s roads and the consequences of transporting large quantities of firearms.

In the United States, laws strictly regulate the possession and transportation of firearms, especially by individuals who are not U.S. citizens. The incident serves as a reminder of the severe penalties for violating these laws.
