Washington – Chauncy Myers, 31, has been handed a seven-year prison sentence for the heinous crimes of stabbing both a victim in public and a corrections officer at the D.C. Jail, reported U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Myers pleaded guilty on March 14, 2025, to one count of aggravated assault while armed and one count of attempted assault with a dangerous weapon in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Judge Jennifer Di Toro sentenced Myers to serve seven years followed by three years of supervised release. The government had sought a thirteen-year prison term.
The government’s evidence detailed that on July 13, 2024, Myers confronted a victim at Triangle Park in Southeast Washington, brandishing a knife and inflicting severe organ damage with a stab to the abdomen before fleeing the scene.
Myers was apprehended and imprisoned at the D.C. Jail, where he met his fate once more on December 23, 2024. During an attempt by a corrections officer to enter Myers’ cell, he attacked with a shank, inflicting a puncture wound to the officer’s forearm.
Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department joined in the announcement, commending the efforts of law enforcement and prosecutors. U.S. Attorney Pirro and Chief Smith also recognized Assistant United States Attorneys Jacob Green and Jasmine Dohemann for their role in bringing Myers to justice.
This sentence sends a clear message that violent acts against corrections officers and innocent victims will not be tolerated in Washington, D.C.
