Boston Woman Pleads Guilty to Armed Robbery of USPS Letter Carriers
A 22-year-old Boston woman has pleaded guilty to the armed robberies of United States Postal Service (USPS) letter carriers in two separate incidents in Mattapan and Hyde Park, Massachusetts.
Myesha Lewis, 22, pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery of any person having lawful charge, control, or custody of any mail matter or of any money or other property of the United States, aiding and abetting, and two counts of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees, aiding and abetting.
The incidents occurred on November 29, 2022, and December 16, 2022, in Mattapan and Hyde Park, Massachusetts, respectively. Lewis and her co-defendant, Kenneth Demosthene, forcibly robbed the letter carriers of arrow keys, which are specifically designed to open designated blue USPS collection boxes.
According to court documents, on November 29, 2022, Lewis and Demosthene approached a USPS letter carrier in Mattapan and demanded the master key. When the letter carrier resisted, Lewis and Demosthene used force to break the brass chain securing the key, causing the letter carrier to be pulled off the front steps.
On December 16, 2022, in Hyde Park, Lewis and Demosthene robbed another USPS letter carrier of an arrow key at knife point. The letter carrier was forced to put their hands in the air as the defendants attempted to remove the arrow key.
Demosthene was sentenced to three years in prison in October 2024, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Lewis is scheduled to be sentenced on February 10, 2025.
The charges carry a sentence of up to 25 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000 for the robbery charges, and up to 20 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000 for the assault charges.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Boston Field Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Luke A. Goldworm is prosecuting the case.
