SAN JOSE – Nathan Moser, 41, of Menlo Park, Calif., is facing serious charges after being indicted in an e-mail hacking scheme.

According to the indictment, Moser, a private investigator and owner of Moser and Associates in Menlo Park, conspired to access the e-mail accounts, Skype accounts, and computers of people opposing his clients in civil lawsuits. He allegedly enlisted other investigators and computer hackers to help him in this scheme.

The indictment charges Moser with one count of Conspiracy, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1030(b), six counts of Accessing a Protected Computer and Obtaining Information, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1030(a)(2)(C), and two counts of Interception of Electronic Communications, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2511(1)(a).

Moser made his initial appearance in San Jose yesterday before the Honorable Paul S. Grewal, U.S. Magistrate Judge. He was released on a $100,000 bond, with his wife signing as surety and custodian. His next hearing is scheduled for identification of counsel today before Judge Grewal.

The indictment alleges that Moser and his co-conspirators, including Peter Siragusa, also a private investigator, and Trent Williams, a computer hacker, targeted individuals who were opposing Moser’s clients in civil lawsuits. They allegedly installed keyloggers on the victims’ computers to intercept and log their keystrokes.

The investigation is ongoing, and the FBI is working to bring all of the defendants to justice. Moser’s case serves as a reminder of the dangers of cybercrime and the importance of protecting one’s personal and professional digital life.

In addition to Moser, Peter Siragusa, Carlo Pacileo, Trent Williams, and Sumit Gupta were also charged in the scheme. Pacileo was released pending the filing of a $25,000 secured bond, while Williams remains in custody. An arrest warrant has been issued for Gupta, who is believed to be in India.
