Erie Man Pleads Guilty to Child Pornography Charges

In a disturbing case, Nathan Richard Kosmatine, 31, of Erie, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to three counts of violating federal laws relating to the sexual exploitation of children in federal court.

According to the court, Kosmatine distributed, received, and possessed computer images and movies depicting prepubescent minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Pending sentencing, Kosmatine was continued on bond. Judge David S. Cercone scheduled sentencing for March 18, 2019, at 3:00 p.m.

Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed is based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Kosmatine faces a total sentence of 60 years in prison, a fine of $750,000, or both.

The law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation include the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police.

Assistant United States Attorney Christian A. Trabold is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
