A Crow Agency man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for his role in the sexual abuse of a minor on the Crow Indian Reservation.

Nathaniel Bartell Plainbull, 34, pleaded guilty to an indictment charging him with sexual abuse of a minor. The crime occurred in June 2021 at a residence in Lodge Grass, where Plainbull was found naked on a bed with the victim, identified as John Doe, who was under the age of 16 at the time.

According to court documents, a woman opened a bedroom door and saw Plainbull with the victim. She reported what she saw to law enforcement in March 2022 while being interviewed on another matter. FBI agents interviewed John Doe, who described the sexual abuse committed by Plainbull.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lori Harper Suek prosecuted the case, while the FBI conducted the investigation.

U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters presided over the case. The sentencing will be followed by 10 years of supervised release.

The crime highlights the ongoing issue of child abuse on Native American reservations. The case serves as a reminder that law enforcement agencies will vigorously pursue individuals who commit such heinous crimes.
