Nazar Lopushansky, 30, a resident of Manchester, New Hampshire, has been sentenced to one year and one day in prison for his role in a mail fraud scheme.
According to court documents, in January 2009, a certified public accountant created a financial statement on Lopushansky’s behalf that falsely increased his company, Engelwood Construction, Co. Inc.,’s cash assets by $450,000.
This false financial statement was then used to acquire four contracts that required bonding for Engelwood from state and local government agencies.
Through competitive contract bidding procedures, Lopushansky’s company, Engelwood Construction, Co. Inc., was awarded the contracts, which ultimately led to Bond Safeguard, a bond company in Tennessee, being required to pay claims totaling $253,585.62.
The case was investigated by the United States Department of Transportation, Office of Inspector General and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
Lopushansky pleaded guilty to six counts of mail fraud and was sentenced in United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire.
The sentencing comes after a thorough investigation by law enforcement agencies, who uncovered Lopushansky’s scheme to defraud the government and private companies through the use of mail.
Assistant United States Attorney Bob Kinsella prosecuted the case, bringing Lopushansky to justice for his crimes.
