Kenneth S. Jones, Bank Robbery, Texas 2023

McALLEN, Texas – A grim tale of criminal audacity unfolded in federal court as Kenneth S. Jones, a 38-year-old Omaha, Nebraska resident, was sentenced to more than 18 years for his brazen bank heist in McAllen. U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick announced the sentence, which includes a term of 220 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release.

Jones pleaded guilty on February 4, 2019, to the bank robbery charge after storming into the Greater State Bank in McAllen and declaring, ‘This is a robbery!’ He threatened employees with a gun, demanding they hand over approximately $10,000 in U.S. currency. After making off with the loot, Jones made his escape.

However, the authorities were quick on the trail. They tracked Jones to his hotel and arrested him that very day. A thorough search of the establishment yielded the stolen cash, marking a swift conclusion to the crime.

Judge Micaela Alvarez found Jones to be a career offender, taking into account his previous two federal drug trafficking convictions. His criminal history and the severity of this offense led to the substantial sentence imposed.

“This is not a joke,” Jones warned as he entered the bank, setting the tone for a night that would end in his downfall. He is currently in custody and awaiting transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.

The McAllen Police Department and the FBI were instrumental in the investigation leading to Jones’ capture. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Robert L. Guerra Jr. is handling the prosecution of this case, ensuring justice for the victims of this heinous crime.
