Joseph Gallego, Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Pennsylvania 2025

HARRISBURG – The grim pages of York County’s criminal chronicle were stained again as Joseph Gallego, a 37-year-old resident of York, Pennsylvania, received the ultimate penalty for his role in the dark underbelly of drug trafficking. United States District Judge Keli M. Neary handed down a sentence of 151 months’ imprisonment on August 28, 2025, marking a severe blow to Gallego’s criminal aspirations.

In October 2024, Gallego entered a guilty plea to charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, a charge that would ultimately land him in federal prison for over a decade. The evidence against the defendant was compelling: York County Drug Task Force surveillance turned into an operation when they observed Gallego entering a residence in York County. A safety sweep by law enforcement uncovered Gallego in the basement, where they found not only drugs but also a loaded firearm, a Glock model 40, 10 mm caliber semiautomatic pistol.

The search warrant revealed a substantial cache of cocaine base: 76.37 grams were recovered, along with a further 1.13 grams and a digital scale, all pointing to Gallego’s involvement in a serious drug trafficking operation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Ford would see the case through, prosecuted on behalf of the United States.

The York County Drug Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were instrumental in investigating this case, their combined efforts ensuring that Gallego’s reign of terror over local drug markets was brought to an end. Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative, played a pivotal role in this case, streamlining Department of Justice resources to combat organized crime and protect communities from violent criminals.

Operation Take Back America, which includes the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN), is dedicated to eradicating cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and illegal immigration. This sentence against Gallego serves as a stark reminder of the Department of Justice’s commitment to upholding law and order.
