New Cumberland Man Indicted for Crack Cocaine Trafficking

A 35-year-old New Cumberland man is facing serious charges after being indicted for crack cocaine trafficking. Edward McCreath, 35, of New Cumberland, was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 19, 2021, with possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine.

According to Acting United States Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, the indictment alleges that on or about July 17, 2018, in Dauphin County, McCreath possessed with intent to distribute 28 grams and more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine base (crack).

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and prosecution is assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian T. Haugsby. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making our neighborhoods safer for everyone.

Project Safe Neighborhoods is a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime. The program was reinvigorated in 2017 as part of the renewed focus on targeting violent criminals.

It’s worth noting that indictments are only allegations, and all persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court. A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

McCreath faces a maximum penalty of up to 40 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to $5,000,000, and a term of supervised release of up to life. The Judge will consider a number of factors when determining the sentence, including the nature, circumstances, and seriousness of the offenses, the history and characteristics of the defendant, and the need to punish the defendant, protect the public, and provide for the defendant’s educational, vocational, and medical needs.
