Bridgeport federal court handed down harsh prison sentences to Jason George Wittlin, 30, and his brother Michael Wittlin, 24, for their roles in a major oxycodone trafficking ring in New Fairfield, Connecticut.
According to court documents and statements made in court, the brothers were purchasing large quantities of oxycodone from several individuals and redistributing the narcotics to other street-level dealers and their own customers. The investigation, which included court-authorized wiretaps, physical surveillance, and controlled drug purchases, revealed that the Wittlin brothers were also involved in marijuana trafficking.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, Connecticut State Police/Statewide Narcotics Division, and Danbury Police Department launched an investigation into the Wittlin brothers in February 2011. The investigation culminated in the brothers’ arrest on August 18, 2012, when a search of their Milltown Road residence revealed 13 firearms and assorted ammunition.
Jason Wittlin pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, namely oxycodone and oxymorphone, on January 22, 2013. Michael Wittlin pleaded guilty to the same charge on April 5, 2013.
Jason Wittlin’s criminal history includes a federal marijuana trafficking conviction in 2006, which resulted in a 21-month sentence. U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill sentenced Jason Wittlin to 48 months in federal prison, while Michael Wittlin received a 38-month sentence for their roles in the oxycodone trafficking ring.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Tracy Lee Dayton and David X. Sullivan. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Connecticut State Police, and the Danbury Police Department.
