Antrum Coston, Gun Possession, Connecticut 2023

New Haven’s Antrum Coston, 42, faced the judge’s stern gaze today as he was sentenced to three years in federal prison for a shocking violation: possessing a gun while out on bond. The United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, David X. Sullivan, announced that Judge Stefan R. Underhill in Bridgeport doled out the term.

Coston’s transgression occurred on October 25, 2023, when New Haven Police uncovered a loaded Taurus G3 9mm handgun with an extended magazine in his possession. The act was particularly egregious as Coston was already under federal bond for previous offenses.

Just one month prior, Judge Underhill sentenced Coston to 37 months of imprisonment and three years of supervised release for pandemic relief fraud, money laundering, and drug offenses. He had been released on bond, but his latest offense ensured he would be spending the next few years behind bars.

Coston’s criminal history is a catalog of offenses, including multiple felony convictions and two federal firearm convictions. Today’s sentence will run consecutively to the 37-month term from last year’s conviction.

The ATF and New Haven Police Department conducted the investigation that led to Coston’s conviction. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nathaniel J. Gentile and Sean P. Mahard prosecuted the case under the Justice Department’s Project Safe Neighborhoods program, which aims to reduce gun violence and make communities safer.
