New Jersey Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Child Pornography and Sextortion
A 57-year-old man from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for distributing child pornography and cyberstalking a minor, announced Acting United States Attorney Stephanie M. Hinds and Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Craig D. Fair.
Barry David Goldberg pleaded guilty to the charges on January 27, 2021. He admitted to using the internet to misrepresent himself as a minor to a 15-year-old girl, manipulating her into sending him explicit images and videos. Goldberg then threatened to post the materials on social media, showing them to her friends and family, unless she complied with his demands.
According to court documents, Goldberg created multiple Snapchat usernames and befriended the girl’s schoolmates, posting explicit photos and videos of her on the platform. He also communicated with the girl’s parents, threatening to disclose her secret to them unless she continued to send him explicit content.
Goldberg was charged with distribution of child pornography and cyberstalking, in violation of federal law. He pleaded guilty to both counts and was sentenced to 120 months in prison. In addition to the prison term, Judge Charles R. Breyer ordered Goldberg to serve a 10-year period of supervised release.
The prosecution is the result of an investigation by the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Paulson is prosecuting the case with the assistance of Jasmine Sanders.
Goldberg was ordered to surrender to begin serving his prison term on or before October 20, 2021. The case is a prime example of the dangers of online predators and the importance of protecting minors from exploitation.
