New Orleans, LA – The grim streets of New Orleans witnessed another high-profile conviction as Rashad Montague, 33, pleaded guilty to an array of federal drug and firearms violations on June 30, 2025. U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier presided over the plea hearing.
Montague stands accused of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and heroin, actual distribution of these substances, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, maintaining a drug-involved premises, and conspiracy to possess firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense. The charges stem from an investigation that spanned over four months, revealing the operation of multiple stash houses on Harmony Street.
Montague faced arrest during a federal search warrant execution when he attempted to flee one of these stash houses. Authorities later recovered firearms and fentanyl at the scene. The case is part of Operation Big Easy, a National Integrated Ballistics Information Network (NIBIN) enforcement initiative targeting firearm casings associated with high-density shootings and homicides in New Orleans.
Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New Orleans Police Department, and Louisiana State Police for their efforts in bringing Montague to justice. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stuart Theriot and Paul Hubbell are handling the prosecution.
Judge Barbier has scheduled sentencing for September 25, 2025, where Montague faces up to twenty years imprisonment, fines totaling $1,000,000, and at least three years of supervised release. Each count also carries a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
